There are three nine-hole golf courses at Gainey Ranch, which are played in three different 18-hole combinations. The courses were built on a rolling landscape of green meadow. The unique character of each course provides plenty of different challenges. The Dunes Course is surrounded by desert and puts great emphasis on shot accuracy off the tee. The greens on this course also require a gentle touch. The traditional layout of the Arroyo Course is the longest of all the courses at Gainey Ranch. It also features an infamously difficult ninth hole. It is notable for its peninsular green that is well protected by four greenside bunkers.

Mostly gentle desert-oasis golf

Not all golf courses in the desert are desert golf courses per se. Gainey Ranch is an example of what might better be called “oasis golf,” with a parkland feel and only occasional reminders of the desert surroundings on one of its three nines. Generous corridors and not a ton of length make it a relatively relaxing play, open to members as well as guests of the neighboring Grand Hyatt hotel, home to La Zozzona, one of the most over-the-top Italian restaurants you’ll find in the area.

Loved it so Much I played it twice

I played Gainey Ranch two days in a row because it was so beautiful and I enjoyed it so much. I don’t think I could pick a favorite nine or 18 holes - if you are lucky enough to get a chance to play here, be happy to play whatever routing they send you on!

Gorgeous everywhere!

I loved everything about Gainey Ranch. The people in the pro shop were very nice, the starters were great and starters too. The course was gorgeous everywhere! Everywhere! I was able to play all 27 holes and loved the layout of the course at every turn. Special thanks to Alex in the pro shop and Sydney on the beverage cart for making me feel welcome!

Desert Golf rhe Way it Shoudl Be

We played the Arroyo and the Dunes nines on a mild and blustery weekday morning. These two golf courses are perfectly manicured

with amazing greens, fairways and tees.

There are many beautiful flowering plants, rocks, and decorative cacti throughout this layout.

The pace of play was well under four hours and there were no distractions here despite the existence of a small army of maintenance workers who did their best to remain invisible.

The Dunes course is relatively short with holes protected by large bunkers and steep berms. Every hole has a dogleg and none are straight

shots.

The Arroyo course plays longer, brings water into play, and has more sidehill lies and narrower fairways.

Swede was an affable and helpful starter who later showed up on the course to provide more helpful information. The proshop is fully stocked and the sign in went smoothly.

The have a beautiful clubhouse and the dining room was full at lunch.
